BBQ Sauce

Making this tonight:

Ingredients:

• 1/3 cup Kentucky bourbon
• 2 cups ketchup
• 3/4 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup cider vinegar
• 1/2 cup pineapple juice
• 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tablespoon molasses
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
• 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, and bring to a simmer on medium-low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, or until the sauce reaches desired thickness. When cooled, taste and adjust seasoning.

Arrive early.  I cannot stress how important it is for you to get to the bus station before the crowds of workers and schoolchildren.  Walk down the center platform to the sign that reads number 6 and wait for the bus to Myjava.  It is surprising how the station is still one of the old places, changing little since before the fall-except for a few kiosks selling hotdogs and black market cigarettes.  Look hard-into yourself if necessary.  Perhaps you will see Miriam. Once, after being away from Slovakia for such a long time and you think you know why, I returned to Senica by bus-my head clouded by the past and present and as we pulled into the station there was Miriam.  I was not surprised – perhaps I reached out to her in a dream and there she was-standing with a red umbrella perhaps as a signal.  The connections that bound us to this place reach far and deep and Miriam is one of its long arms.
